After being run largely by volunteers since 1968, YWT made the Reserve its Flagship in 2005 and employed a full-time staff team. Volunteers remain part of the Reserve's activities and are collectively called the
'Friends Of Potteric Carr' (FOPC)
supporters group

Friends of Potteric Carr are involved in the following Reserve activities.

FROM A PUDDLE IN A FIELD TO ONE OF THE REGION’S MOST IMPORTANT NATURE RESERVES

Potteric Carr volunteers can be proud that their endeavours led to the present-day success story of one of the region’s most important and best-loved nature reserves, rich in wildlife and a place with a 40-year tradition of community volunteering. The Reserve now has the benefit of full-time professional management, but there is still an important role for volunteers.

FROM THE ARCHIVES
In the early days of the Reserve access to YWT Potteric Carr was limited by the number of Permits issued by British Railways for volunteers to walk across live railway lines on site. The annual permit below (1972 issue) had to be aquired before visiting the Reserve.
